Default Knowing the Gender of the Developer.

How you're going to notice particular design is designed by a male or female designer? :?

It's an interesting question.
Are you suggesting that men and women have inherently different approaches to webdesign? What would the implications of this be?

Well I think you can make out whether the design is made by a male or a female designer by the use of colors in the website. Generally females prefer to use light colors be it in a website or in their personal life, while in case of males they might not have any problem using dark colors.

What about the backend stuff?
IMHO women worry far less about portability and more about getting the code working now.
Also I've noticed that a femail friend of mine likes to do the graphical elements first and then apply the mechanics after. I, otoh, prefer to chunk out a code skeleton.

Depends what im doing, if im making a site, ill just sit on PhotoShop trying to come up with a design, and after I got something im happy with, ill then figure out how im going to code it etc.

im the same, except i do it on paper first.
i design the layout first, so i know where i want everything to go, then i use photoshop and make a design to fit that idea. The hardest part of webdesign is getting started :P

Default Webdesigners and Webdesignettes

Well that should be there nickname.

Anyway there has been alot of banter about a male domination of web design lately. Saying that sites are targeted at men?!

I think the reason could be there are more men designers as we were all geeks and adobted it quickly.
I'm all for more women designers, especially at my work. :P

The thing is I don't think you can say web sites are targeted at either,
at our work they targeted the company and its image.

My boss has made loads of feminine looking sites.
Though he is gay, but I don't think that matters

I think designers should think about the product and users of the site.

Well, If you differentiate it by identifying some factors of web designing you might notice the differences a recent survey shows that males favour the use of straight lines opposed to rounded forms, few colours in the typeface and background, and formal typography. Similarly for language, they usually favour the use of formal or expert language with few abbreviations and are more likely to promote themselves and their abilities, while it is just opposite with female.
