Default windows hosting vs linux

There isn’t much to tell here as this has been mentioned a lot of times in many other articles. The basic and major differences between these two are the price and number of users. Linux is the cheaper version as it is free giving it a great advantage compared to Windows as its price can go very high, depending on the package you decide yourself for. However, this fact is even if it is still so obvious that Linux is cheaper, Windows prevails over Linux in many ways, starting on the supporting technologies, which are the key in configuration of the game server, but also the number of Windows user will always be larger and therefore the server must be Windows too.

This is only a part of all of the things that need to be completed and conditions fulfilled to produce the most efficient way, that will provide all what it takes for a game to function in the multiplayer mode. Internet connection, server resources, own computer configuration, the quality of multiplayer mode, they all have to be maxed out as much as possible for best performance. The number of factors at play here are enormous, but still there are people who take care of them all and therefore as a result the game that they play, online, is worth all that effort which must be put in it.

This post actually makes sense to discuss traditional topic of Windows vs Linux. The price difference between these two platform is big and this is the reason most of the website owners opt Linux and open source application to build and host their website. And the fact is, after working under Windows environment sooner or later you would like to try Linux as well. However, in game servers market Windows is still dominating Linux.

Post Re:

As of me Linux supports a wide range of software, applications, languages, and databases such as PHP, Perl, PostGre, MySQL, PostgreSQL and many others making it very scalable. On the downside, Linux is not fully compatible with some Microsoft technologies so if you are using Access, ASP, MS SQL, or VB development tools then Windows would be a better bet.
