I think, it depends on the level of maturity in information technology with business, its size and financial capacity to invest in this area, is the type of equipment or systems to acquire companies but nowadays the trend is a research for competitiveness.

Unlike to what one might believe, being a small and medium enterprises, greater flexibility to implement new technologies or programs, so the size should not affect investment plans.

According to my knowledge, the latest trends are:

1. Optimize resources and reduce costs.

2. There will be an increase in the acquisition of cloud hosting services (in any of the three types, as a service, such as infrastructure or as a development platform).

3. There is an increased consumption of technological products within small and medium enterprises.

4. Be implemented social computing and intelligent.

5. Increase the purchase of smart-phones for VOIP services....

6. Virtual security will be strengthened.

If your company made an investment in technology and already have a good and comprehensive platform, these days you can invest in improving methods of training your employees, implementing platforms such as VOIP, etc.......
