SSL is stands for Secure Socket Layer. It is a type of web data encryption which prevents sensitive personal and financial information from being intercepted by hackers and cyber criminals. SSL certificates are placed on web sites to indicate that this type of encryption protocol is being utilized on sensitive pages, such as checkout pages. This seal or certificate not only ensures shoppers of their safety, but it also deters hackers from trying to steal information that could lead to bank, credit card fraud or identity theft.
If you are serious about building and operating an online business, then you will require an SSL certificate for every web site that sells items or processes payments regularly. Most eCommerce hosting plans include SSL certificates automatically; however, you may need a wild card certificate if you are planning on using more than one SSL certificate per hosting account.

SSL certificates permit you to non-forgettable proof of your website's identity, and customer confidence in the integrity and security of your online business. Customers are becoming increasingly aware of the advantages of SSL security and will often not purchase online from non-secure stores. All big web merchants utilize SSL security to encourage customers to buy online.

No there are no disadvantages of using SSL certificate. However, using SSL certificate doesn't sounds that you ignore other essential factors of website security. Sometimes web developers write poor code, which is an opportunity for hackers to search back doors in your website.

According to my knowledge, most of the attacks on website happens due to vulnerable coding, so make sure you recheck your website scripts. In addition, avoid the use of unnecessary free plug-ins and modules on your site.

SSL (Secure Socket Layer). It is a security protocol used by Web browsers and Web servers to help users protect their data during transfer. It will prevent private information such as credit card numbers from being stolen, ensure customer confidence in the reliability of your e-commerce website, give you a competitive advantage over those websites that do not have security guarantees.
