Can I use antivirus without installing it?

I want to scan my computer without installing any antivirus in it cause installing the antivirus makes it too slow and I dont want to waste my RAM. So can I do it from a cd or something?
Is there some tool or any live antivirus that will help me do this ?

You can also get a "portable" version of antivirus. that is that it does not need to be installed. A lotof programs are coming out now designed to be run from a usb flash drive.

Yes, i agree, you can install anti-virus through a protable hard-disk. However, this might take a bit longer time in scanning the pc.

You can also scan your pc From other computer if it is connecting to other computer

Kims is program written by Indetectables crew...
It does wut Virustotal is doing just its local...
It very small so u gotta download it and configure...
It downloads console version of av scanners and then uses them to scan,...
It also downloads updates....

You can install antivirus program such as Avg scanner by downloading trial version and as you are facing problem of wastage of ram because of anti virus program.
Solution for the same is while installing or after installation you have to simply disable option daily scan means it will not use ram while running your pc and will use memory only when you will start scanning manually
