It seems to be a growing field. However, more and more software is coming out that makes it very easy to do on one's own. So, it will probably begin to shrink in the near future.

I think SEO is just like open sky. just spread your wings take a breath and start enjoying it. In near future there are much more chance of SEO growth with the growing number of E-commerce sites.

If you take SEO as an career prospect then its certainly the best way you are going for. Search Engine Optimizer is the one who markets the site once it has been designed. He is the one who promote information on a brand which reaches people in order to benifit a website.

Most IT industries look for SEOs who are experienced in web designing and possess a fair knowledge in IT skills. It is the new career aspect for everybody and will gain a lot of popularity in upcoming days.

SEO perpescpives are always subjected to change based on the change in algorithm of the Search Engines. There are some concepts that are always have been initiated fo e.g. Social Bookmarking Sites.
