Bandwidth is not the same as file transfer or data transfer. There is lot of difference between the two. Bandwidth defines the speed of your website whereas data transfer is defined as the rate at which data is transferred to users computer.

In web hosting, Bandwidth is defined as the amount of information which is downloaded from the web server in specific period of time. Data transfer is defined as the amount of traffic generated from a website.

Well, we often see these terms on web hosting plans of many companies. But technically they sound totally different.

Bandwidth can defined as the quantity of data transferred per unit time. It is measured in bits /sec (bps) or bytes/sec.

Data transfer is counted as traffic generated by a website. It is measured in bytes, kilo bytes (KB), mega bytes (MB) or giga bytes (GB).

Let me provide you with brief definition of Data Transfer -

Data Transfer refers to data conveyance from one end to another.Well, it all depends upon the DT allocatd to you. Normally low data transfer and Bandwidth are in relation with shared hosting where as large data transfers and Bandwidth are specifically designed for dedicated servers.

I guess the concept is now clear, now let me tell you about Bandwidth -

Bandwidth is the amount of information that is downloaded from web server at single point of time.Bandwidth is measured not in terms of speed but in the form of Week/Month.

Cheers
