Default Domain Privacy

Why people insist of having their domain data private? I though that if you put some content on the net, especially businesses, why would you want to hide your contact data?

Well, sometimes people don't create sites to promote themselves and they don't want to be connected to the content. But it is silly to open a business and keep whois data private.

I see your point but I still don't see what's the big deal about it. I still think that this option is ridiculous way for domain registrars to earn money. This should be optional when registering a domain. But in this way, they first make you share your private data and then they charge you if you want to hide it.

I totally agree that there should have been at least a notice saying that domain privacy would need to be manually set.
