Default Internet directories.

Just wondering what are your experiences about internet directories. Have they been successful in bringing traffic to your web site?

Well, web directories do help bringing traffic on our website however IMO, you shouldn't rely on such web directories, as you cannot be assured that your links will be kept on free directories for long. What matters here is also the Pagerank and popularity of such directories, there are also Paid directories which have High Pagerank, popularity where you can submit your website and see a change in traffic for your website.

Internet directories do not bring in a lot of traffic on your sites directly, however, submitting your links in Internet directories will help you to get good rankings in search engines for specific keywords (which have been used while submitting your sites ;)). Thus, you can get good traffic from search engines for those keywords

You cannot expect much direct traffic though. But they are helpful in getting backlinks to your websites and indirectly helping your SEO efforts.

You can however get a ton of spam from them if you like. Anytime I have tested some out before I always setup a specific email forwarder to grab all the junk before hand. Its a pain to try and sort through sometimes.

Lol, yeah most of the times.. People rather prefer Social networking and forum posting. They have been found better then directory submission.

I agree. They not only get you back links but also help with traffic.

but honestly there's no harm in submitting your website to the internet directories. there are free and paid directories. But I have seen most of them submitting their website to free directories.

Exactly. I used to submit my website and blog on web directories. While I wouldn't expect so much traffic coming from the directories, it's indeed a good way of link building.

It's always a good option to look for free directories as you do not have a pay anything and you can get a backlink from the directory which will help you to get good rankings in search engines.

It is recommended that you submit links in directories consistently which will give you better results than submitting your site links in directories all at once.

Free and Paid directories give a different effect I think. Free ones send too many spam emails though. But honestly I don't think it is worth submitting website to paid directories.

I never used Internet directory listings that much because I value direct traffic more than indirect traffic but there are other benefits to directories that you can count on.

I strive to submit my site to as many places as I can, paid or free, it doesn't matter. That is the only way you can make progress for your Internet real estate.

Generally speaking, I avoid internet directories (particularly paid ones). Google is getting smarter about link quality, and most people no longer use directories. I've had much more success with one-on-one link exchanges.
