Default www vs non www domain indexing

I have registered my site without www prefix, but it works using it also ( http://www.mediapixel.co.uk ) But google ignores the www and has indexed my site with just mediapixel.co.uk
Does this affect my position and link building etc... because if i have a backlink to www.mediapixel.co.uk google wont reconise it because it thinks the site doesnt include a www. prefix

Its very hard to understand, but i would like to get it cleared up.

By the way - site is not 100% active.

IMO, Your thoughts regarding google indexing are completely wrong. You should not worry about www. part as that is considered as default for any website. Google has that setting in its algorithm which tells them how to categorise www. and non www. URL .
