Default Turning it off

During the thunderstorm and lightning visits in our area, I was advised many times to turn off the computer for safety and precaution. But I didn't turn it off, nothing really happened until the thunder stopped roaring and the lightning disappeared. I don't understand why I have to turn the PC off when there's a thunderstorm and lightning. Why is it important to turn off the computer during such situation?

Lighting is dangerous for not only computers but for other electric appliances also. If any lighting strikes power lines it can roast your computer, Surge protectors used in household items like computer and televisions can stop up to 150, 000 volts and lighting carries way high charge than that. So it’s better to turn off your PC, if you will unplug it that will be better. Remember prevention is better than cure.
