Default Writer's Block

When you're operating a blog for profit, not writing isn't really an option.
Sometimes I get some really killer cases of writer's block, and I usually end up posting something uninspired and yawn-worthy when they hit. I've heard a lot of different advice, but usually I just end up browsing the web 'till something hits me, and then rushing to get the post written up. I wish I had a better system, but the whole process is just torturous if I can't find anything I'm interested in to write about.

Whenever you can, try to write something in a word document. Anything at all. Even some things that seem nonsense at the time. When your muse takes a leave, you can browse what you have written in the word document. You'd be surprised at what you have written.

I've heard of this, or something similar, while attending college. Apparently some students majoring in English brainstorm by free-writing anything that pops into their heads, without any sort of cognitive censorship. I've never tried it, but it seems like the concept might have some merit to it. Thanks for bringing it up!

I don't write for a blog but I do some writing, I normally go to other websites, blogs, forums etc, and just read anything, even the news, celebrity gossip, anything.

Usually when I am trying to write and cannot progress with any specific thing, I will get up and get something to eat or drink then go back and sit down while trying to relax for a few minutes. I will clear all my thoughts and then jot down the first thing that pops back into my mind. I'll write around 5 to 10 sentences on that topic and then start fresh with whatever I was stuck on.

Yeah, I do find that sometimes putting the frustration out of my mind for a few minutes and enjoying something else can help. Regardless, sometimes I just have "off" days where I'd rather step in front of a bus than try to string a cohesive post together.

Of course, I'm sure that each of us can relate to those days. I can almost tell as soon as I wake up when I am going to have one of "those days". I just don't even care to get out of bed then.
