Default I need a computer

I need a new computer and really don't know what to get. I don't do a ton of work on mine. I would need Microsoft stuff like Powerpoint and excel and word but other than that I just need super quickness online and tons of storage. Where do I start?

I think a Dell would be fine for you. They have some refurbished ones on their site too if you need a cheap one and they also have financing too even on new ones. I like their site because you can go there and pick what you need and it will tell you what system is best. I prefer HP but Dell is helping in choosing a system.

If you just need it for working on MS Office then I would prefer you to go with Assembled PC. This would be cheapest solution for you. However, if you believe in brand then you can opt for Dell or HP. Both are well-known and offer best quality hardware.

As far as refurbished products are considered, I would say it is not a good deal. Most of them work for few days or months. After that, they face many problems that might cause you to loss the trust in company.

I never got for refurbs as they are called. Most have no warranty and often if they do, will crash right after it expires. I have a non-brand I call it. Its an Intellus and it has been great and it was CHEAPO.

I'd also recommend a Dell because they are actually inexpensive for what they offer. If you are looking for a laptop, I recommend any of the Inspiron series. If you want something that is a bit better, go for the Studio ones. Since each model offers some room for customization, I'm sure you can find what you need. I don't really recommend HP because all of the HP ones I've seen are mostly media based and not so much office orientated.

I don't think I can afford a Dell, I am going to look at others though especially if you say name brand does not matter because I've always thought it did. What do I need to look for in terms of hardware/software to make sure I have the speed and things I need?

If you can't afford a Dell, my only suggestion is Acer. They have some decent systems for a cheap price. The netbooks they offer are pretty good. Maybe just get a computer with 2GB of RAM and 250GB of harddrive space.

A netbook is esentially a small notebook/laptop. It is small and compact for portability. I consider laptops that have a screen size of 10.1 inches or smaller a netbook. You will also see most netbooks with the Intel Atom processor and 1GB of RAM. The newest netbooks have maybe 2GB of RAM and 160GB(already better than my laptop). The price for a netbook is around $400 USD I think.

Oh ok that is interesting. I've not heard that term so I thought I may be missing out on something, I think I could use a netbook as much as we tend to travel. I will still need a desktop for all of my daily tasks but the netbook would be nifty to store easily.

I suggest getting an Acer netbook because they are pretty popular right now. The only down side is that the thickness is not what I want in something as portable as it should be. Also, you might want to buy Windows 7 as an operating system when it comes out beucause it will be tons better than Vista and XP.

I am going to check that out right away. I currently have a laptop, but it belongs to my work place so I still need to get something for my self.

One of my friends has a little netbook with Linux on it... my goodness, that thing's awful. :p I think there's a little abacus in it, doing all the processing.

You can be thrifty without getting a piece of junk like that. Don't just go for the cheapest thing you can find.

Oh my goodness BlueGigs you are hilarious. I will have to watch myself when buying one. I am a bit on the cheap side usually. If I see savings, I try to go for them.
