Default Will the Cloud ever take over the desktop?

Cloud computing is the next big thing, though some would say that it's been the next big thing for years now. Nevertheless, the advent of faster and better browsers and easily accessible high-speed internet have all enabled cloud applications to practically match their desktop counterparts. We have Zoho and Google Docs for office productivity apps, Pixlr as an online Photoshop alternative, and virtual desktops like EyeOS and G.ho.st, among others.

Personally, I don't think cloud computing is there yet, but who knows what may happen in a few years time?

I can image cloud services becoming more important, yes. But until there is real, stable high-speed internet access for almost everybody with a computer, the cloud operating system won't happen. Good internet speed and better browsers are the pillars on which any cloud OS will stand on, so those have to improve greatly before cloud operating systems become more than just a concept.
