Default Starting a Webring

How exactly do I go about starting a Webring? And if I'm part of a Webring, does that actually help my ranking on the search engines? And will it help my ranking if I later decide to leave the ring or will it only help my ranking while I'm part of the ring. What's the real deal here?

To start with Webring you will require the following:-

1) You will need a Topic to create Webring

2) You should have basic knowledge of html.

3) You will also have to set up a webring "homepage" with all the details on how to join your ring etc.

4)Once your ring is set up, you will have to invite others .

Well, when it comes to webring, you will need some websites for it and ofcourse, knowledge about HTML is required for webring. The basic motive is Search Engine optimization as all the websites in the webring are linked are together. However, to make a webring, you should have all the websites related to the same topic which will give you more benefit.

Also, you should have links within sites which connects other sites in the webring and also there should be a central site which connects all the sites so that the visitor does not leave the webring and it becomes easier for you manage all the websites within the webring.

It is considered to be a good option but when it comes to Search engine rankings, you should make sure that Search engine spiders are quite intelligent and they may find out that the links are from your websites only which can bring a negative effect for your Search engine rankings.

You can check http://www.bodhost.com/forum/general...-webrings.html (Webrings.) for more information about webrings.

Thanks this is very helpful information. It's something I'm seriously considering in the future. It also sounds like a lot of work to get up and running, but I'm up for the challenge.

Yes, it will take some time to setup a webring as you will have to start some websites with good content and then link them together to form a webring. However, if you do the hard work required, you will surely get the results for it

I'm actually rather surprised webrings even still exist at all. It's like living the 90's all over again! :D

Frankly, I haven't heard about using webrings for SEO purposes. In fact, I've yet to see a website that's part of a webring anywhere among the top search results. From my understanding of how search engines work, webrings may even have a detrimental effect on your search rankings. Carl explains why in his post above, and so does the thread he linked to. If I were you, I think carefully about using a webring, especially if search engine rankings are important to you.
