150 members, thats cool

The thing that matters is the no. of active members and topics discussed.

I agree with martin and peter, the forum software has not that much importance, it all depends upon the quality posts, if you visit forum like; http://forum.marketingsecrets.com/index.php you shall find it has 3675 members and posted article around 11873.

It has a wide range of reasons, although bodhost.com maybe a big site people just come to it for hosting and maybe not for a community since there is so much else out there - and I know alot who are picky about what forums they go on "oh is that a phpBB forum? gah what noobs". vB or IPB I guess shows a level of commitment to the forum. Considering you forked out 160 dollars or what ever for it.

If you are comparing it by features I completely agree with you, vb has lot of good features and more secured. Although I am considering it by number of members/post etc comparing with a forum of a similar hosting company.
