Are you paid to geek?
Are we all geeks by nature or not? I work with computers and have loved anything I could take apart, tinker with and put back together but does everyone here get paid to be a geek or no?

" Freelancers" is the word used for non-paid Geeks. ;)
They have either volunteered for being Freelancers or waiting for opportunities rather.

Well most freelancers that I know are paid, it's just that they usually don't have a regular salary as they only make money once they're contracted.
But I understand your analogy
And to answer your question directly, at the moment I don't really have a IT related job but hope that I will eventually (or start up my own business instead). In the mean time I do some freelance work occasionally though.

If a person is a geek, he must have born with a talent in handling computers, internet, softwares and the like. Some are called freelancers who are looking for online jobs as their sideline or by independent contract. That is an advantage of working in a computer to earn a few bucks online.

I was called a geek and believed it until I entered this realm. I am great when it comes to anything to do with the actual internet but not so good when it comes to hardware. I can take my computer apart without fear and replace things like the modem, cards and ram but I'm too nervous to tackle a hard drive as of yet. And when it comes to servers, I know diddly but I am trying to learn.

I used to believe that I wasn't a geek until I got out of high school. When I entered my college programs, I found out that I was not only a geek but also a nerd. At first, I took offense but then I began taking it as a compliment.

And probably that's the reason you have your username as "HappyNerd" :D
And i do also agree that most Freelancers are now paid with contracts.

In general Geek word is a slang term, marking individuals as "a peculiar or otherwise odd person." mostly used for overly obsessed to one or more things like intellectually, electronic, gaming e.t.c.

I am an almost anything geek (sometimes more software than hardware) but I am a knowledge nerd too. I guess sometimes it just comes with what you got, where you are now and where you are going. I am just happy I am not alone in the journey.

Please count me in as a full-time geek. I love computers because it's more than just a computer monitor and keyboard, it could do wonders with the help of different software programs. Yes, I am paid to geek, also design websites and banners.

I wonder if it counts when you are still a pre-teen and taking apart anything electrical in the house just to see if you can make it work again? Even better, I wonder if my kids are going to do the same and I get to walk around the house and find "spare parts" laying about...

Yes, I think if you start working to become a paid geek then you won't get money in the initial stages when you start learning. You will get paid when you learn everything and then work.

I write software for a living but i refuse to call myself a geek. I like sports, hunting and fishing in my past time. Not normal geek stuff...
