Free mailing list software?
Does anyone know of any free mailing list software that is almost like Aweber? What software do you use for your mailing lists? What benefits does it have over other free email marketing software?

I would recommend PHPlist. phplist is free to download, install and use, and is easy to integrate with any website.

I don't know about that particular software but many of the free services get filtered by the spam filters at a lot of ISPs because many of the scammers use those types of things. If you want a really professional service, I would recommend going with Aweber or GetResponse. They have the best relationships with the various ISPs. Aweber is also a double opt-in system which is handy for showing ISPs that the person asked for the email. Unfortunately, many people will report it as spam rather than unsubscribe like they should so it can be handy to be able to show proof.

I recommend YMLP (Your Mailing List Provider). They offer three versions, based on the options you'd like to use; Free, Professional and Professional Plus. I use the Professional type for my website and it helps me receive messages from visitors that browsed my website.

I have never heard of YMLP. Can you give a tad more detail on how the different levels work? Does it go by number of subscribers or something else?

YMLP stands for Your Mailing list. It is easy to use, maintain and it also helps us to get our newsletters out easily and quickly.

yourmailinglistprovider or YMLP is basically a third-party software which requires installation on the server.

I recommend Prosender - it's basically an older version of Aweber without a few of the more recent bells and whistles and it's a lot cheaper than Aweber. You can pay monthly, quarterly or annually.

I am completely agree with Jack. He has recommend phplist. phplist is a fee to download and easy to install. PHPList is a popular open source mailing system, which provides you with the ability to send messages to a e number of recipients. You can manage you own mailing list and you will be able to attach files to your emails, like business documentations, carts, photos and etc. For your PHPlist web system SiteGround will provide you with a reliable, secure and fast hosting solution where you can use all PHPlist features.

Well, I checked the websites of Prosender and Aweber and found out that there we no difference in the pricing. You will have to pay the same price for Prosender and as Aweber is a developed version of Prosender, I would recommend Aweber. The reason for this is the fact that Prosender is an older version of Aweber and you will get developed features with Aweber. As you are paying the same price for both of them, why should one select the older version.

I’ll suggest for the mailman. It’s a free software application from GNU Project, and I think it’s the best mailing list software round the globe. Some times, it called Python.
It is includes some best features like:
.
• For each mailing list, there’s a Customizable home page.
• Integrated bounce detection and automatic handling of bouncing
addresses.
• Spam filters are integrated. .
• You have multiple list owners and moderators. .
• Privacy features are high compared to other softwares like private
archives, sender based posting rules, private membership rosters, and
closed subscriptions.
• Best feature which I feel is it got support for virtual domains.
• Web based subscribing and unsubscribing. Users can temporarily disable
their accounts, select digest modes, hide their email addresses from
other members, etc.
• Web browser interface for, archiving of messages, spam filtering and
list administration
• Majordomo-style email based commands.

I went with a paid service because I've heard too many horror stories of IPs being blocked with your own mailing list software. A lot of ISPs now will ban your IP if they get too many spam complaints. If anyone here has their own mailing list of any size, you know that a lot of people hit the "report spam" link rather than the "unsubscribe" link. It's a real hassle trying to fight with an ISP to show that these people really did opt-in for your emails. I'd rather let the service deal with it as the big ones have established relationships with the major ISPs. I use GetResponse because it has all the features that I need but the prices is way lower than Aweber.

I completely agree to you Bloggerbee. Many of the people who have subscribed to your mailing list will report your email as spam instead of unsubscribing. Due to this your IP address may be blocked by the ISP and you can do nothing about it. For this reason, the Mail list software should be chosen very carefully and you should include the subscribers very carefully instead of adding them directly in your mailing list.
