satellite phone or cell phone whats ur choice?
Satellite phone and cell phones are both wireless devices. Almost look alike. But there way of working is completely different. Cellular phones work on cell based systems that are why they are called cell phones. The networking area is divided into small areas known as cells. And each area is equipped with an antenna. These are known as towers.
When a cellular phone is moving, it keeps entering from one cell to another. When it crosses the border of one cell, the phone sends a signal to an office known as MTSO
or Mobile Telephone Switching Office. With the help of control channel the database
of the MTSO relocates the cell phone in a new cell or area. And then sends signal to
next MTSO. The MTSO and Public Switched Telephone Network better known as
PSTN co-ordinate to handle cell phone.
Whereas in the satellite phones they use Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites. With the turning on of the satellite phone a signal goes upwards to connect any of the satellites of a group with whom the phone is registered. When somebody makes a call from the phone a signal goes to the near by satellite. The satellites connect to the ground station which is called getaway. Then the getaway takes the call to the destination. The call can be transferred to cellular phone, landline phone or PSTN. In return you can call to a satellite phone by using a cellular phone, landline phone or PSTN.
In case of a satellite phone getaway take care of the calls as compared to cells in sell phones. If you want to call a satellite phone using other satellite phone, the call first reaches a ground station through a satellite. Then it’s again aired to a satellite and then reaches the destination phone. So getaway processes the switching of calls not satellite. satellite phones are much more convent compared to cell phones as they are not limited to signal tower range and enjoys a vast broadcasting range.
