Default Improve your Harddisk speed….

yes people its true im awesome
i mean im back with a vengance
anyways

To speed up your hard disk speed we need to configure a special buffer in the computer’s memory in order to enable it to better deal with interrupts made from the disk.
This tip is only recommended if you have 256MB RAM or higher.
Follow these steps:

1.
Run SYSEDIT.EXE from the Run command.
2.
Expand the system.ini file window.
3.
Scroll down almost to the end of the file till you find a line called [386enh].
4.
Press Enter to make one blank line, and in that line type

Irq14=4096

xsrc=”http://www.petri.co.il/images/speed_hd1_small.gif” mce_src=”http://www.petri.co.il/images/speed_hd1_small.gif”
Note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE!!!

1.
Click on the File menu, then choose Save.
2.
Close SYSEDIT and reboot your computer.

Done. Speed improvement will be noticed after the computer reboots.
Update: The most speed improvement is visible with IDE drives, however there are reports that this tweak also does good for SCSI disks. In any case, it won’t harm your system, so why not try it yourself and let me know what you find.

Not sure what operating system this tweak is meant for, but since Windows 2000 the System.ini (And Win.ini) is a legacy file that are kept around for Win16 applications.

Hard disk speed can also increased by using hard disk cache settings. Hard disk cache settings also depend on available RAM. These settings can be done by following settings in system.ini
MinFileCache=4096
MaxFileCache=8192

If you have lower RAM then above settings are very use full to improve the speed of hard-disk.

To improve a system performance Hard disk should be tune up properly. If your hard disk is fully loaded with large amount of data it struggles to keep pace with other components. There is lot of software available for tune up HDD.

You should always remember to back up your computer before you run any system tools or do any troubleshooting.

In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.

Want to speed up Windows XP startup? Here is the trick: make your system do a boot defragment. This will put all the boot files next to one another on your hard disk. When boot files are in close proximity to one another, your system will start faster. On most systems, boot defragment should be enabled by default, but it may not be on yours, or it may have been changed inadvertently.
