Whenever I install joomla or wordpress it seems to be a constant battle with file/folder read/write permissions.

I have to chown the files to what I'm assuming is the correct owner details, but in order to update an install, I have to unsecure a folder or file to proceed

I contacted the support live chat yesterday and was advised that plesk needs the contents of httpdocs to be set to the group psacln not psaserv and that I needed to update the files/folders under httpdocs using

Code:

chown websitebyme.psacln * -R

This was done for me, I still cannot get the installs to work correctly even though the right file permissions are set (eg 755)

Whenever I'm creating a domain, I do this through plesk, so why does my vps assign psaserv by default to the content of httpdocs and why when gets set to psacln nothing improves?

Cant find anything in the KB, is there an idiots guide to permissions for bod vps?

I was just browsing here (http://www.bodhost.com/vps-hosting.shtml):

VPS Web Hosting, Virtual Private Servers at BOD Host...

I was just browsing here:

VPS Web Hosting, Virtual Private Servers at BOD Host

because I'm very intrigued by VPS. I noticed on the linux starter package it says equal resource allocation. How can equal resource allocation be ensured? How does that work?

I am not very clued up on the server business beyond the basics, which is why I use Bodhost and am in the forums to educate myself more thoroughly. However I still have friends and family asking me questions based on things they have heard about some place. Yesterday the subject of overloading shared servers came up. I am right in thinking that overload is not an issue with VPS, aren't I?
