All it depends on how much complexity you want to integrate in your e-shop website. If you are going to build a small or medium sized store, then you can build it by using open source shopping cart software such as Magento, osCommerce, ZenCart, etc........These software will help you to make e-shop step by step. Once your store get completed you can manage the website online.

In order to build more advanced, secure and complex web store you may requires custom design that can be easily integrated in above open source shopping carts. However, for the customization work you need to hire professional web designer and developers who are capable to design an effective e-commerce site for you.

Developing an E-shop requires careful planning. It can be as simple as getting a domain name, paying for a webhost, and putting up a one page product catalog with "buy now" buttons. It gets more technical if you want multiple pages of products, with a shopping cart that remembers your customers' selections. If you have just a few products to sell, then put up a one page catalog and give your customer a way to make a purchase after each description. If you have many products to sell, you can still use one or more pages. Place a box next to each product that will allow them to type in quantities, and have a checkout cart or button at the end to finalize their purchase. If you have too large of a selection, for any of these options to work, then you'll need a shopping cart system that will allow your customers to shop around your website (while remembering their selections). And with the online world that we have, it's very convenient that you offer paypal as one of your payment options.
I would suggest that you check out Avactis cart, they have a demo store that you can play around. This cart is so flexible and yet very easy to maintain. It doesn't require programming skills but wold be nice if you have a little background with the basic html/css.

Many people are thinking of opening an online store. There are few who are brave enough to take the first step because this requires a lot of courage. If you are one of them then you should have to consider many things, deciding what type of products you wanted to sell, choosing a software solution and a hosting provider. In choosing a software, you will never know if it is good enough until you try it. I suggest, you would download a free version or open a trial account to remove all doubts. Then carefully choose a hosting provider, as moving to a new host can turn into a big headache. Some people call the web hosting service the site’s technical backbone. Actually, the steps for launching e-commerce are so simple that you may feel disappointed at the lack of adrenaline rush.
I recommend you to try Avactis, it is a PhP+MySQL based shopping cart. It has full of features that make it a very powerful yet easy to use shopping cart solution. And if you want to go beyond the standard functionality, Avactis support is one of the best.
