Default Forums or Blogs

Which is the better way in getting some traffic into my website, forum signatures or blog signatures? These are the only two methods in which I know in advertising my website. Which would be more effective?

To drive traffic, I think blog signatures are more effective. Bloggers or blog visitors tend to follow other blogs' links in blog signatures. While in forums, users come to talk and discuss topics and are not in the "visiting mood".

Thanks for the advice. I will try your recommendation and hope that it will get some visitors. For now, I will start scouring for good blogs that I could comment on for my website is still in its finishing stage.

I agree with webnubie, forum users don't usually pay attention to signatures. But you can post about your website on webmaster forums, especially if they have a "review" section. I get several visitors coming from webmaster forums by getting my website reviewed there.

I will also consider your suggestion Mickey. Who gets to review my website? Do I have to pay for them to review my forum or is it free of charge? What other methods out there that could be used to gain more traffic in a new website?

It is free of charge. And actually it is not that someone will write a review on your website. You need to make a thread under "review my website" or other similar sections, describing your website and posting your link there. Then other users will reply and give feedback, normally after visiting your website.

Thanks for the answer. I was thinking of the other definition on review. So its more like promoting your website in the forum and getting comments to improve my website. I like that idea.

In this case, I guess 'promoting' is not the suitable term. The idea is you post your website or blog there solely to get feedback from other members (webmasters, bloggers, or common visitors). So your thread will be plain information about your website/blog and a non-cloaked link to it.

Wow. These are pretty neat. I like the idea of making use of blogs to link back to your site! That's so cool. What about the forums where there are communities? Would you target those at all?

I would never click on a signature unless it is a quality one. It should be impressive as well.

How do you judge that a signature links to a quality website or not before you visit the website? Do you judge it from the wording of the signature or the quality of the post under which the signature is put?

I would say utilize both blogs and forums to drive traffic. Someone above suggested submitting your website to be reviewed. Not only will you get free helpful feedback but you will get lots of traffic.

Why do you just need one or the another, why not both? If you have the time for it two is always better than one (just my thoughts). If you have the time to keep both properly updated go for it.

Blog signatures help drive more traffic to your website since you have followers supporting your blog and refer more bloggers to visit your page. Forum signatures can be helpful, it doesn't matter how many times your signature has been clicked, at least a few of them visits your site rather than no traffic at all.
