Default How does google deals with duplicate content?

as in the googlewebmaster's blog"having duplicate content does not have negative effects on your site's presence in the Google index."
then what is the effect of duplicate content? for i have seen many sites with similar content, but still have good ranking.

It is not necessary that your website will have a negative effect in search engines if you have duplicate content on your website. However, if this content is found by the website owner from where this content is taken, the website owner can create problems for you if you haven't provided a backlink to his website for the content.

There are many websites on the internet where you will find similar content, however, the content is similar and not duplicate. That means, there are some changes made to the content ;)

If there are some changes made to the content and you have done good search engine optimization for your website, your website will definitely get good rankings

Yah its right, a website owner can create a issue for having copyright content which posted by him. As you can see almost Entertainment Blog's having copyright content, but still having a Good PR. It is why coz these guys change the Titles while posting a content and do Link Back. But search engine keep an eye at these things and a copyright Blog is always in risk to get block.

Although people keep talking about the unique content and related stuff, content writers are smart enough to copy content from one site, make some changes and paste it to their site, and though they give results. This is a result of a smart copy work. If the google finds any such exact similar content then it marks the site as a spam.
