Default Scams

It certainly doesn't look like the scam programs have lost any profitability in this economic climate. It seems like every other late night infomercial is advertising the newest, shiniest way to turn your PC into an ATM (yeah, right!).

Unfortunately, it can be a little difficult for the newbie online entrepreneur to tell the difference between a legitimate program and a fly-by-night scam. The idea of running an "automated money-making website" can seem feasible to someone who's never had a website and doesn't know what "SEO" stands for. It might be a little idealistic, but I hope that most of us can find a way to get our piece of the online business pie without taking advantage of others.

It really is idealistic and wistful thinking, but I do hope that those scammers will have a little more conscience. Having been a scam victim when I first entered this virtual world, I get my hackles up whenever I see those enticing advertisements that requires payment of certain amounts of money for useless tutorials and list of dead end online jobs.

I just wish some hosting services (or the association of web hosting services worldwide, if there is one) would ban or reject hosting of such scam websites. Is that possible or is it the "business is business" mantra?

I'm of two minds on this one - I think intentionally scamming your clients is terrible business practice, but I also don't think it's a host's job to decide what content their customers choose to upload.

Still, it's not okay to allow illegal content, and a lot of these scams that you see all the time are walking on very thin legal ice.

I don't know if hosting companies has the resources that would be necessary to scrutinize each website that they host. If they did, I think the cost per package would increase.
