Default ECommerce Hosting

Hi,

One of my friends is thinking of starting with an eCommerce site, however, after reading on different forums about the Credit Card and other payment gateways fraud, I am afraid if she should start or not.

Do you people support eCommerce Hosting? How can I be assured that my clients data is safe and all the transactions made are truly secure?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

E-commerce website that involves online transactions can be secured by the use of SSL certificate and the installation of safe payment gateways such as PayPal, Google Checkout or 2Checkout. With the combination of these services, your E-commerce website would be highly secure, so there isn't anything to be worried about.

Making sure your eCommerce site is secure is the owner's responsibility, not the host's. If you're using a 3rd party payment gateway instead of processing credit cards yourself, then your customer's credit card details should be safe with the payment gateway of your choice (since you won't be handling transactions directly). If you're keeping other customer info in your site or database, however, then it's up to you to make sure your scripts are secure.

Inaddition to the selection of an appropriate web hosting provider, below are few basic but important factors that one should consider while choosing a web hosting provider that offers support for E-commerce websites:

Security
Todays standard for the security of online transactions is Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. SSL protocol ensures the encryption of the transaction data and only then transmits it over the Internet. A digital certificate is required for the verification of the merchant's identity. You will most likely want to obtain your own certificate from the web hosting provider.
I suppose Bodhost too offers SSL at reasonable rates.

Payment Processing Gateways
Inorder to accept credit cards online, its necessary that you acquire the service of a payment processor. A payment processing service takes care of the credit card transactions between a Web business and merchant account. The payment processor choice would depend on the selection of shopping cart you opt.

You can also seek an easy website building tools, many commerce hosts incorporate easy-to-use software for building online catalogs.

You can go for a Dedicated Server and activate all the possible security measures to protect your customer's data. As explained by Matt, you will also need to take care of those security steps.

Dedicated Server, eh? I am afraid, simply because I cannot. I do not afford to pay for Dedicated Server :(

Isn't it possible to consider VPS to start with. It is just an ECommerce site. Nothing like much load or something of that sort. There isn't a single video. It is a simple site including products, features and the online transactions.

Yes, you can surely start with a VPS. A VPS is just like a small Dedicated server with almost all the features of a Dedicated server You will also have Full SSH Administration access to your VPS and hence you can also install the applications you would like to have. This makes a VPS better and more reliable than a shared hosting package

When it comes to hosting E-commerce sites, yes, you can host E-commerce sites with a VPS also. Security is also a major concern when it comes to E-commerce sites and a VPS is quite secured in comparison to a shared hosting package :D

As you will have online transactions, you will also have to install SSL certicate on your website and if you purchase SSL certificate from BODhost, we will install it for free on your website

You can check the SSL certificates we offer through the below link :
