Default Ecommerce & Dedicated Servers

Will having a dedicated server change anything I use as far as Ecommerce is concerned? I generally use Buy It Sell It or Zen Cart for stores that I customize. I was reading where it may change thins, but only if I may use a windows version? Is there somewhere I can read up on the variations between the two?

As far as this is concerned. If you are using BISI then you are using them as a host. If you switch to a dedicated server, you are looking at a whole new program, as you would no longer be using the BISI system. You would need a whole new setup, I believe, regardless of if you use Windows or not, for dedicated hosting setups.

What you're using to power your eCommerce website — whether a dedicated server, VPS, or even shared hosting — doesn't really matter. Not unless your site has resource requirements that require you to have a dedi or VPS, anyway, and that only affects how well whatever eCommerce script you're using runs. If your script is resource intensive, then yes, you would need a dedi or a VPS to handle it.

Well, if you consider a Dedicated server for your E-commerce sites, you will have several advantages and the best one will be the availability of your E-commerce sites which is really important. If you consider a Dedicated server for your sites, your E-commerce sites will be available all the time as 100% uptime guarantee is offered with Dedicated servers (atleast, BODhost offers ).

When it comes to handling a Dedicated server, it is not difficult if you consider a fully managed Dedicated server Yes, changes in the setup of your sites and other applications is to be done but this is not a difficult task if you consider a fully managed Dedicated server. Also, if you consider a Dedicated server, considering it with a control panel will be a good option as this allows you to manage your server quite well

Ok I don't have access to the script and BISI customer support said that I would use a different thing as they are an independent type host per say? All they done was confuse me so I'm assuming I need something all different if I do my own hosting. Where do I start with that?

It seems that BISI provides hosting services with the script and they won't allow you to use the script if you do not have their hosting services

Well, if you do not wish to continue with their services then you can consider a lower configuration VPS hosting package for now from a hosting provider (Fully managed and monitored VPS would be better ).

If you consider a VPS, you will be able to install any shopping cart according to your choice on the VPS and you will have full access to your E-commerce shop (site) as well as the VPS This would be a good option as you will be able to install any script, shopping cart or application on the VPS if you need them later on.

Also, if you need more resources in future, you can upgrade your VPS and go for a higher configuration VPS or a Dedicated server (confirm with the hosting provider ).

Thanks so much for being so very helpful. Do you have any particular script you would recommend and for which services you recommend for that script? I need to be able to list items in categories and subcategories and have options for size, color, and quantity as well as having weight based shipping calculation.
