Default Online business without registration

Are you at risk of you do business online as an individual and not a registered company? If you're not a registered company, can your assets be seized in case your business goes under? Since I tend to do some freelancing as an individual, I never really bothered to register as a business. I'm starting to worry, though, about what might happen in case things go really wrong. How high is the risk if you're not registered?

That's a question that I would like to pose on most successful webmasters and website CEOs. Did they have to register their business with any government agency? Which one? What taxes are imposed on them and on their business? Does page rank and traffic affect these taxes?

More than likely they would have to pay taxes and the taxes would be based on their sales after the allowed taxes they have paid out have been deducted.
