There are some notable omissions in that list, such as Textpattern, LifeType, Habari, and Serendipity. Of those, Textpattern is my favorite, mostly because I'm fascinated by their Textile markup language.

Thumbs up

Thank you for providing the list bod-jack

I think Wordpress is the best as the interface is really simple to use and it is also possible to install plugins, themes, Widgets etc. easily which can give you great benefit in terms of Search Engine Optimization of your blog :dancing:

Thanks for the excellent list of blogging platforms. But i think Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal are the finest and easy to undestand blogging platforms amongst these.

Whoah...thats a really nice piece of info. thanks Bod-Jack. Though, haven't tried anything other than Worpress as there wasn't a need for that.
But, I would like to give a try to one or two of the alternatives. Can someone please suggest me an application that is as simple as Wordpress?

I think, Graffiti is a better CMS than Wordpress. Graffiti do supports themes and Plugins exactly like a WordPress CMS. The most important part is it looks like they got permalinks working on IIS without having to have a .aspx extension on every page.

I have recently downloaded and installed Graffiti CMS and have been trying my hands on it for approx a week.Graffiti supports a variety of databases that includes VistaDB, MS Sql and MySql but they claim it to be mono-compatible, so it is able to be run on linux and other mono supported platforms.
Some of the qualities that I came across are:

~Seems to use NVelocity templates to render out HTML, meaning it's clean
~Supports a programmable API -- MetaWeblog
~Supports its own extensibility though Widgets
~Widgets can be installed in literally 2 clicks
~Admin dashboard is slick
~Free express version

I have seen a lot of talk lately about Joomla. What is it like? Is it better than Wordpress or how is it different?

I don't know if anything will overtake Wordpress but I am always curious to try out new things so any pointers would be great.

Joomla and Wordpress both are different CMS portal, both have their own features. Basically the points of difference between them are:

1) Wordpress is more user friendly to normal users who dont know anything about web development, whereas Joomla is friendly with all type of Designers, Developmers, Administrators.

2) Wordpress is more preferrable for Blogging.

3) Joomla updates fixes it bugs, whereas Wordpress updates sometimes bring more bugs than fixes.

4) Wordpress is more SEO friendly than Joomla.

5) But looking at future Joomla is a better option.
