Has anyone given TrellisDesk a spin?
I've been checking out some helpdesk solutions, and it's clear that Kayako is definitely the market leader. However, it is a commercial product, so it doesn't exactly come cheap. I did find one free helpdesk software that looked like a good alternative: TrellisDesk.
So has anyone here tried it? From then features list and demo it looks very similar to Kayako, which is a huge plus. It doesn't appear to have live chat support, though, but that's okay since there are other good freeware programs for live chat (LiveZilla comes to mind). I plan to try TrellisDesk out, but I'm wondering if any of you already have. If so, how was it?

Well, if you are looking for a Reliable helpdesk then we would suggest you to consider Cerberus. It is not Free and you will have to pay some licensing fees for it. However, it is definitely worth it as it has a lot of features and it is quite stable.
When it comes to a Live chat application, we would suggest you to go for Live person. It is fast and is reliable also. However, this application also requires licensing fees.

Kayako is definitely one of the leading Helpdesk software's..
In case you're using cPanel/Fantastico you should find a free Helpdesk software available there known as osTicket and PHP Support Tickets. I haven't personally used them so I cannot comment on how they actually work..

I've used Trellis Desk and I have to say I really like it. It has a lot more features than osTicket, another helpdesk software I've used. The public knowledgebase in Trellis Desk, in particular, has helped to cut down the number of support requests. If you're looking for a feature-filled helpdesk solution, the Trellis Desk is definitely the way to go.

Fantastico has a free helpdesk too! Is there anything that Fantastico doesn't' have? I need to learn more about Fantastico!

I just checked out the demo to TrellisDesk and I'm very impressed. It looks great and very comparable to Kayako. With it being free, that is just the icing on the cake.

I have sorry. Until now I've never even heard of TrellisDesk. I did go look at the demo just now and it looks pretty cool.

I've been using Hesk (a free helpdesk software) on one of my sites and it's served me well enough. Trellis Desk looks really impressive, though. I might give it a spin on one of my other sites just to see how it is.

Kayako is still the best helpdesk software, but like you said, it's a commercial product. Trellis Desk does look nice, but it looks a bit crowded — too jam-packed with features. Personally, I prefer osTicket's simplicity.

Cerberus is another option which can be considered.

Thank you for your feedback, everybody! I think I'll give Trellis Desk a try. It couldn't hurt, could it? I'll probably need to play around with it a bit to make sure it does what I want it to.
Hmm... I wonder if it supports email piping?

We are happy with Help Desk Authority
Not a freeware but the pricing is very reasonable for the feature set.
I recommend you test the tool in your environment like we did. We tried it for a month before we bought.
