I am sorry as I do not know the exact difference in them, but as per my opinion, you pay Google for to place Adwords on Google’s system, but Google pays you to put Adsense on your site.

Yes, Matt is right!
Adwords is used to advertise your product in Sponsored Links whereas Adsense is used to publish 3rd party product on your website.

Google Adwords:- You pay Google
Google Adsense:- Google pays you

Basically, Google Adwords and Google Adsense both are a part of Google's Advertisement programs and Google Earns from these programs. Sources say that Google gets 99% of it's Revenue from it's Advertisement programs :o

Thank you Carl for sharing the info. Well, I thought that Google earns only from Adwords however I don't think that earning 99% Revenue is possible just with Adwords. It is obvious that even after paying others Google might be earning from Adsense also Hammering

Yes, Google Earns from most of it's Services. Most of it's income come from Advertisement programs and Google also provides some Advertisement Tools and charges for it which also adds up to it's Income.

Thank you for the link, however, I think Google Adsense is better than Google Adwords as we need to pay Google for Adwords ;)

I don't think so. Basically, Google Adsense and Google Adwords are quite different from each other and you cannot Compare between them. Google Adsense is for placing Advertisements of Other websites on your website and Google Adwords is placing Advertisements of your website on Other websites. Hence, there should be no Comparison. However, it is definitely possible to compare Yahoo Publisher and Google Adsense as they are both the same in terms of Concept

Google Adsense are ads you put on your site and make money from. Google adwords are ads you place and pay for. In other words if you want to advertise your site you could put up an ad with Google Adwords. (You pay Google). Or if you want to make money from Google, you put Ads on your site using Adsense, (Google Pays you).
