As you find our the details of the keywords and Keyphrases used by visitors, Countries from where you get the most visitors, links from where you get the most visitors, Search engine used by the visitors, The link/article for which you have received the most number of visitors etc. As you get good information about the visitors visited your website, you can optimize your website accordingly by promoting different links and keywords which are mostly used. Exactly, Carl is absolutely right. Statistics shows you the overview as well as the detail report of your visitors. You can optimize you site well by tracking the visitors locations, keyword and key phrase which are mostly searched by them. Also, it shows the error pages of your site to which robots were unable to find or crawl. You can fix them to get better results.

Yes, you will also get the information about Dead links on your website through the website Statistics report. Once you get the reports about the Dead links on your website, you can repair those links as Dead links also make a Negative effect on the Search Engine Rankings and the PR of the website.

The statistics also shows the operating system details that the visitors uses to browse you site. The exact use of it is that it helps you to make your site more browser friendly. This report tells you to ensure that your site works for those browser. You should check your site in each browser to make sure that it works good fine in them, especially on Firefox, safari, Opera and IE as these browsers are mostly used by people.

You will also get information about the Duration for which a Visitor was on your website (However, it is not necessary that the duration is absolutely perfect). Once you get this information, you can develop your website so that Visitors are on your website for a longer duration and they browse more pages.

Yes, if you are aware of the time for which a visitor has been on your website, you can develop your website and make some changes to it so that a visitor stays for a longer time on your website. Adding a Video or some interesting topics on your website can help you out to keep a Visitor on your website for a longer time.

Similar to Awstats & Google Analytics there is another free website statistic service available called StatCounter. It is completely free and recommended service that provides a complete statistics report about your website. It also provides you a Google Map to check where your visitors come from.
