Default Google ranking system, fake or real?

Is it possible to get PR without building backlinks? I mean i have seen many sites that don't have any backlinks, but has gained a good PR.

Back Linking is one of the important factors but a PR does not fully depend on it. Great Content, keywords and other Search engine optimization methods are important as well.

Links matter but they are not the final answer to your websites SEO.

I too think that without backlinks its just impossible to gain a high PR. As per others there may be some more factors that could help to gain PR. But as far as i know Google determines the PR of a web page on the basis of Quality backlinks.

It shouldn't be said that it is not possible to get PR without building quality backlinks. It is definitely possible but it is really very difficult get high PR without quality backlinks. If you have websites with a high PR without backlinks then the Content would be great. Also, as you have high PR for your websites without backlinks, I would suggest you to get quality backlinks for your websites which would help you to get even higher PR for your websites.

Thanks everyone, for your opinions. It means that you don't need backlinks to get a PR, you just need quality, unique and proper keyword content in order to gain a PR.
Could you ppl please tell me, what things need to be consider while making quality content?

Basically the content has to be unique and helpful. Make sure you have your own unique style of writing content making it easy to read.

If you put up content that will be interesting, people will naturally want to link your website.

You can also write content of your website by finding a well-written articles related to your website and rewrite the. In order to avoid duplicate content you should have more than 40% unique content. The higher the unique percentage, the better off the material will be.

Yes, Editing the content can be an option and this can be used if you are not aware of the Topic but you wish to have an article of the same topic. Also, if you are editing the content you should make sure that the words and format are edited properly and are different than the original one which would help you to get better results and more traffic.

Before you select content Writer's for your website, you should make sure that they are well aware and have an Experience about writing on the Topic your website has. Once you have got an Idea about the Experience and the Quality of content they make, you can decide about the amount of Money which should be given to them for Each article etc.

You can find thousands of Content Writer on the net who can write for your website, make sure you first crosscheck about their previous work. Many of them work as freelancer so you can search for them at few freelancer websites Usually they charge around $10 to $100 depending on the quality and quantity of article/content to be developed ;)

You can quote them for some 4-5 articles for your choice of keywords. IMO, the freelancers could be more customizable than the big agencies. The big agencies will quote more, but you can put quote to freelancers as per your budget. Try out finding on Elance.

I agree, hiring a freelance web site writer would be more cost effective as compared to choosing an agency for it. You hire the talent directly in the case of a freelancer so it saves some $$.

Correct. However, you should also make sure that the Content writer you choose can create quality content for your website as if the content is not good, the content writer won't be worth of the amount you pay to him/her.
