What percentage of keyword density should by keywords be at inside an article on my site to maximize SEO? I've heard that too many keywords can make it worse instead of better.

Suggestive keyword density is about 3 - 5% of the complete no. of words. Too many keywords will be accounted as keyword spam and will hurt your rankings.

More number of keywords will always affect the rankings in a negative manner. Keywords should be used as and when required.

Yes, very true. If you have a web page with say two hundred words and you intend to have more keywords then definitely your article will be affected as the content of web page is less and keywords are used blindly irrespective of the quality of the content. This would cause your keywords to be filtered as spam and it will not help you to get more links.

Totally agree with Shane... The keyword density should be min. 3.5% and max. 5%. If your keywords density is between these then there are chances of your web page to rank better in search engine.

That's correct. Also, you will get better results if the keywords are well sprinkled within each blog post. For example, if you have a post of three paragraphs, you should use the keywords in all the three paragraphs instead of using all the keywords in one of the paragraphs.

Well, I'm not sure if my question is related to the topic or not but I am still confused with Keywords and Tags. Not much sure what the difference is? Because at many places it says "Keyword Tags". Can anyone help me to clear the doubt I have? Thank you!

Well, IMO keywords are those which are entered in the body text to get easily searched via search engines and Tags are those which are assigned to a particular url, data or a record that helps to easily find that data or record.

Meta tags consist of Keywords, Description, Title and Note etc. In case of Tags, keywords are descriptive words or phrases that are separated by commas and attached to the web pages. Keywords should be in form of phrases rather than words as people tend to use them more often while conducting a search. To be more SE friendly you shall make sure that you do not have more than 875 characters in your keywords. Also repetition of the phrases shall be avoided.
