Why Do People Think Ecommerce is Easy Money?
SO many people jump online and throw themselves into an ecommerce business thinking they'll be rich over night. Why do these people think they don't have to work or do anything about learning business operating procedures, cash flow management, book keeping, business planning, accounting or marketing??
An ecommerce business is the same as a traditional business, but just conducted online.

Agreed. It is not very easy to setup an Ecommerce business and the skills required for Traditional business are almost the same. I mean, you will have to manage everything for an Ecommerce business as you have to do in a Traditional business. Learning business operating procedures, cash flow management, book keeping, business planning, accounting and Marketing is also important when you are planning to start an Ecommerce business.

Well that poured cold water all over my pageant. Here I am trying to learn about hosting my new e-commerce site and all I've learned so far is that I have to complete a business degree to get anywhere. Sigh.

You don't need a business degree! You just need to work hard at it, stick in and make sure that you are reliable and have good communication, that way your customers will value you and will return to you giving you more business!

It's probably due to the fact that it SOUNDS easy to do. I mean who wouldn't want to stay home and manage their inventory right?
Unfortunately, e-commerce just sounds easy and work is indeed required to make some money. However, at the same time it's not impossible to do either. If you sell the right products and are willing to put time and effort into doing so, you'll do well.

easy start, hard to carry on
E-commerce prevails under the global resession. It is true that everyone can start with it, but how to carry on is a real question.
you never get to know the difficulty unless you have such experience.
but whatever happens, let us keep on trying, cheer up!

Maybe the saying" a good beginning is half done” not apply for ecommerce.
Everyone can makes a good start, but not a good end.

I'm not saying you need a business degree - but it's still important to understand some of the workings of how a business runs and how to monitor your progress so you don't fall in a heap when it comes to the crunch.

A Business degree is not important and you can surely start an E-commerce business on your own even if you do not have one. It is really important that you work hard and learn the tips and tricks to drive customers to your website on a daily basis.
You should also manage to offer best deals to the customers and make sure that they are satisfied with the products you offer. It is also important that you earn profits out of the products you sell as you will be able to continue your business only if you have good amount of profits on the products you sell.

Targetted traffic is the mnost important thing - if you are selling screws then you only want people that are goping to buy screws coming to your site, there is no point getting 1000 visitors a day that are looking for nail guns =)

Indeed. That's requires a detailed report as to how to bring-in targeted traffic to a website.

Correct. Search Engine Optimization is really very important if you wish to have an E-commerce website. You should have a good amount of visitors per day on your website so that you can continue your business. Make sure that the optimization should be done correctly as this will definitely affect your business and this is one of the factors which will decide the time for which you can run your business ;)

Geez, this sounds so overwhelming. I don't have time to go back to college, and I don't have money to get an on line degree. Is there a free education source on line? I have found one at free-ed.net, but I just started with it today. What I could really use is a curriculum - what to learn first, second, third.

I agree with taggert - what are noobies like us supposed to learn first, second and then third. I understand I need a domain name and a web host for my site. I know which affiliate programs I want to deal with. What else?

I also once thought that it must be really easy to make a ton of money on the internet. Apparently, the only people doing so are the people who teach other people how to make money on the internet. It almost sounds like the internet has become one major multi-level marketing program.

In addition to the domain name, web hosting and affiliate programs, there are many more things which are required to earn money on the internet. You should learn marketing techniques and also have business management skills to earn money over the internet. If you have an E-commerce website than you should be able to provide your customers with good quality service at an affordable price with the products they need.

For starting an e-commerce business you need a shopping cart software compatible hosting server. There are many hosting companies but it depends on software you are using.
The security is the most important thing in an e-commerce business, where you need to purchase an SSL certificate (ie. secure socket layer) through which the customers Credit Card details are secured and sent in a encrypted format to the merchant.
And at the last you need to have a right marketing strategy for your site to drive the customers.
