Default Dedicated servers for finance websites

I notice that some websites which need to gain trust of their customers and potential customers (for example finance and forex websites, also HYIP websites) disclose that they host the websites on dedicated servers.

Do you think using a dedicated server to host your website can improve your business image to your customers?

As someone with a fairly limited working knowledge about hosting, but some experience with it, I think that kind of disclosure probably does give the appearance of credibility to the visitor/customer. Then again, I'm not sure all that many people even know what a server is. :p

If managed properly, a dedicated server is indeed the best and safest web hosting package/solution available and hence a dedicated server is recommended to those customers who give top priority to security. If some of the site owners who own a dedicated server disclose that their site is hosted on a dedicated server, it may create an impact on the visitors

LOL That's true, and I agree with you to some extent. I think many users wouldn't care about the server things. It's enough that the site they are accessing loads fast. But I think those who are investing their money will be more aware about these things.

I definitely agree that it enhances credibility if depending on the customers and what information you are collecting or service you are providing on the server. To the average person I don't think it would make a difference. Just more jargon.

I disagree just slightly. I think that people who are not familiar with dedicated servers and why they are better for security will still respect it, if it is presented with knowledge and confidence. I call it "Physician thus spake" syndrome.

Seconded! These days more and more of the general public are developing an interest in Internet security, perhaps due to the impact of popular sites such as Facebook and the information sharing concerns there. It is probably more important than ever to inform customers of your own site security.

Disclosing that the server is a dedicated server will help a bit. But this is just only one that many visitors or potential clients check on a website that deals with money or crucial information. For me, the history of the website is more important than the type of server used.

David, what exactly do you look for in the history of a website? Is this always your priority regardless of the nature of the website? (Thinking here of a site where you will enter your personal financial information as against one where you won't).

The history of the site like the time for which it has been on the internet and the kind of reputation it has makes a difference.

Carl answered the answered for me as that is my answer too. Knowing the reputation of a website will make me comfortable in dealing with that website.

Yes, and the reason is the same with my answer above.
