Default Shared Dedicated Server

Is it possible that I could manage a dedicated server and share (or sell) to other people the free resources my server have? Will it have problems with my own website if I manage to do this?

It's an interesting question and I also wonder about it. Is it OK to resell our dedicated server or should we purchase a reseller package for the purpose?

I'd assume that sharing your dedicated server's resources would only cause problems for your own projects if you tried to stretch them too thin. It looks like Bodhost can do a lot of customization, so I doubt you'd run into any problems as long as you started out with a good understanding of your needs and the needs of the people you plan to share your server with. Just my two cents.

Absolutely, you can resell hosting from the same server. Just make sure you do not overload the server or oversell the resources. We have many costumers who get servers from us to resell hosting. You can create your own hosting plans, shared and reseller plans.

Yeah, there are some who earn by reselling hosting account using a dedicated server. You can create few shared plans to start and see how it goes for. May be you buy another server if it works well

Thanks for the confirmations. So what is the difference then between a "shared dedicated server" from a reseller package? I know that I can have more flexibility with a reseller package but can I get support from Bodhost if I resell my dedicated server?

The term 'shared dedicated hoster' just seems strange to me. Surely it is either shared or it's not! Still, interesting topic to think about. Does it work a bit like subletting a house? Say I had a large house and I wanted to live in it but let other people live in the basement and attic. I don't need the space so am losing nothing and gaining rental fees?

I think its more like several VPS's on a dedicated system, but I could be wrong, so someone feel free to correct me if I'm computer backwards.

Shared hosting is a type of Web Hosting Service, in which multiple websites and users share a server. Although shared hosting is not always well suited for all types of websites. Websites which get high traffic are the ones who opt for a VPS or a dedicated server.

Shared hosting is often the affordable cost hosting service available.

yes i think it is very cost effective also because the hosting provider can spead the expense of the server across the users on one server.

Shared hosting a type of hosting where multiple users (sites/accounts) reside on one server, share its resources and have the same operating system. Each account has its own "residence" and cannot be accessed by other users. But the server itself is under the control and authority of a Main client.

Virtual Private Server (VPS) a hosting environment that provides the benefits of both shared hosting and dedicated hosting. VPS are setup by partitioning one physical server into many.
Each virtual server can run its own full-fledged operating system, and each server can be independently rebooted.
This system gives you the same level of root access as a dedicated server with sharing the cost of the hardware. With a VPS you are virtually running your own server but in low cost.

I am particularly zoning in on the part where you say "each server can be rebooted" on a VPS. This distinction really sticks out to me and goes a long way to clearing up the differences between shared and VPS.

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. It is also referred as Virtual Dedicated Server.
Its a method of partitioning a physical server into multiple servers such that each has the appearance and capabilities of running on its own dedicated machine.
Each virtual server can run its own full-fledged operating system and due the independent operating system each server can be rebooted independently.

Features like rebooting the VPS, accessing VPS remotely, ability to install any 3rd party applications etc. makes it the choice of many users.

VPS is also a kind of shared hosting but its for those who are having low budget and want to experience a Dedicated environment, VPS is a solution for them to go with.

think of one vps as a dedicated server. You can reboot/restart each vps just like a dedicated server.

Default Do not over sell

I think remembering not to oversell is a really good point. But the question I have about that is how do you go about calculating how much you can resell so that you will not end up over selling?
