A cluster is a group of more than 2 servers working together A cluster is created to provide a higher level of scalability, reliability, and availability.

If the websites which are to be hosted have a heavy traffic due to which it is not possible to host the websites on one single server, Clustered servers are required.

Cluster basically involves a number of servers (minimum 2 ;)) which can vary as per the requirements of the websites. The load of the websites is then distributed on the servers so that no server within the cluster has excessive load.

The other benefits of Cluster involves high availability which means that even if one of the servers in the Cluster fails, the other servers will manage the load of the websites

A server cluster is a group of independent servers that are managed as a single system for higher availability, easier manageability, and greater scalability.
These are multiple independent, redundant servers where the load is distributed through round-robin DNS.Hosts use load-balancing solutions for balancing the load across the network.Hence one can expect redundant services for your website/s when hosted on a clustered server.

Cluster servers are two or more than two in number which are in a single or multiple network and setup to serve the requirements of high-availability such as fail-over or mirroring servers.

It is a group of servers that have all of the same applications and services installed. It requires the Advanced or Datacenter versions of Windows Server which support clustering.
These versions allow you to install the clustering service. There should be high-capacity, high-throughput network and data connections between the member servers and shared storage.

What makes it desirable is that it allows services and applications that fail on one member of the cluster to be transferred automatically to another cluster member. Simply put, it is fault-tolerance for the application layer.
A clustered approach to web hosting can take the sites to a new level as it overcomes the limitations of one physical server. Even compared to the finest dedicated server plans a clustered approach is still far superior. Grid web hosting technology or the clustered dedicated servers allows sharing of processing powers amongst many servers, distributed in real time. This means that the websites are powered by a very powerful and inexhaustible source; it is because even the largest customer cannot take more than a tiny fraction of the large server pool. The other benefit is that, even if one server is under threat thee are lots of back us available and the other servers are available to share the load.

Clustered servers are highly beneficial for websites which require high uptime .its basically two or more servers in a cluster in case of failure of one server other will manage and this increases the uptime
