Unlimited Bandwidth with Dedicated Server Hosting
Many of the users who require Dedicated Hosting for hosting their websites often look for Dedicated Servers with Unlimited bandwidth. Few lines given below will help you to understand the true fact of Unlimited bandwidth with Dedicated Servers.
Unlimited disk space and bandwidth is not possible in the hosting industry and some of the hosting providers claim that they provide unlimited disk space and bandwidth to attract customers.
However, it is possible to provide Unmetered bandwidth with the Dedicated Servers but Unmetered bandwidth is not Unlimited bandwidth.
Dedicated server with a part or all of a dedicated connection is called a Dedicated server with Unmetered bandwidth. Unmetered does not mean Unlimited. Hence, an unmetered 10Mbps connection gives a maximum transfer of roughly 3000 GB per month.

Very well described Carl
I guess there are many companies who bluff on the part of unlimited diskspace, I am happy that you cleared the point that Dedicated Server Hosting or any other hosting could not get unlimited bandwidth...
Web Hosting provider should be brave enough to display that nothing is unlimited in the hosting world

Bandwidth is provided by ISP's which are then delivered to Data Centers and they are charged accordingly as per their prices.
There is no way any hosting provider can offer real-time unlimited bandwidth as it is nothing but a sales technique.
However, this does not refer to unmetered bandwidth which basically means bandwidth or Data Traffic which is not metered or unmeasured.

Thank you for your appreciation Fletcher
Some of the hosting providers claim to offer unlimited disk space and bandwidth just to attract customers and unfortunately, some of the customers who are not well aware of the hosting industry get attracted to these type of hosting providers and later realize that they did not get what was claimed :(

There is nothing like "unlimited bandwidth" so i would suggest that we should never get trapped in the trap that some companies use for marketing strategy.

True. These are simple gimmicks played by unprofessional web hosting providers for attracting customers. To my wonder, people actually fall prey to such marketing tactics. This is because of the lack of research.Hence it is advisable to do some good research before signing up with a web host.It is better to check for some reviews and client testimonials before ordering a web hosting package from a particular host.

Client testimonials can actually help you to choose a good web hosting provider, however, when it comes to reviews, there are some which are not genuine and hence it is better to check what kind of support the company offers as this is one of the best methods to determine the standard of the web hosting company

IMO the only thing that can keep you away from being cheated is research and having knowledge of the web hosting service you are searching for. If you have a good understanding of services and technologies used in the WEb hosting Industry, the chances of you being fooled by hosting companies can be reduced to a large extent.Other things such as client testimonials and reviews are secondary. You can approach a hosting provider and discuss things with them directly.

Thanks for the explanation, Carl. I would like to know one more thing from you, that is dedicated server hosting better than a Cloud hosting in terms of features?

You are most welcome Atticus
Yes, it can be said that Dedicated Server Hosting is better in terms of features when compared to Cloud Hosting. There are two reasons for it which are given below:
1. If you consider a Dedicated Server, it is possible for you to customize the Dedicated Server at any point of time as the hardware belongs to you. When it comes to Cloud hosting, it is possible to upgrade your Cloud hosting plan, however, it is not possible to customize it.
2. You can get much more resources with a Dedicated Server in comparison to a Cloud hosting plan. Though, there is a possibility of upgrading your Cloud hosting plan if you need more resources, however, you will still get less resources in comparison to a Dedicated Server.
Hope this helps

Do we need to pay for what we use with cloud hosting or is it just a marketing strategy?

Well, i am not sure about that, however, one thing i am sure about is that Cloud computing is much better than dedicated server especially when you experiences high loads on you server. With cloud hosting you can easily produce temporary virtualized instances to manage that load. However, if same condition is occured with dedicated server you have to request for a new hardware to your hosting provider, due to which you may face some downtimes.

No its true cloud computing customers are usually billed on a utility basis with little or no upfront cost.

It usually differs between the host. Some may offer cloud hosting services on a Pay Per Usage basis, while some may offer them as fixed packages similar to the other web hosting packages. Ultimately, the end user tends to pay almost the same amount though. But there is no difference in the functioning of the cloud

However, it is not necessary. There are some hosting providers who offer Cloud hosting plans with Guaranteed resources and hence you need to pay for the Cloud hosting plan even if you do not utilize all the resources provided with it.
