Default dedicated vs. shared hosting

What is the difference between dedicated and shared hosting? Which of the two is better that you think it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements? My knowledge about the two hosting servers aren't that in-depth.

It all depends upon your requirements. When we speak of shared hosting services, it refers to sharing space with other clients on the same server whereas a dedicated server, you do not share your space with any other client and will only serve your requirements.

Perhaps, that will help you understand the difference.

Shared hosting is basically sharing a Dedicated server with some other users and the reason for this may be the high cost of the Dedicated server or simply because one does not need the resources offered with a Dedicated server. A Dedicated server only belongs to you and hence it is preferred by all. However, it also depends on your requirements.

If you want to have the features of a Dedicated server and you do not need the resources or you cannot afford a Dedicated server then you can simply opt for a VPS as it is just like a small Dedicated server with almost all the features of a Dedicated server with less resources and eventually lesser cost.

Dedicated web hosting is more flexible type of web hosting solution as compared with other types of hosting solutions. The organization who have chosen a Dedicated hosting package from a Web Hosting firm, has the complete control over the server(s). The organization(s) can choose the operating system, hardware etc. to be installed on the server. The resources of a dedicated server are not shared with any other user account.

A shared web hosting account has a lot of limitations. On a single server there may be lot of other shared accounts. The amount of server resources are limited. One does not have root access, so the user cannot install an application of own choice. Some web hosts overload the server in order to increase their profit, this results in bad performance of the sites hosted on that server.Every account faces the same issue.

Yes if cost is what, one is looking for then Shared hosting solution is much much cheaper than Dedicated server plan.

Matt.

A Dedicated Server is a type of hosting where one or more servers are leased by a customer or an organization. It is dedicated only to a single user and it is setup as per customer's requirements. RAM, hard disk space, bandwidth, a connection to the router thus a complete server is allocated to the owner which cannot be shared at all. However those whom the owner provides an access can definitely use the server.

Shared Web Hosting is the most common type of budget web hosting. The server is shared among multiple users so it is a very economical solution to host websites. Smae IP and server hostname are shared by all the users sharing the server. If it is high traffic site then opting for Dedicated is always recommended.
