Hello,

Thanks for posting in our forum.

It's not possible to install windows Vista on a dedicated web server. Also, when we speak of IIS, it refers to Internet Information Services. It will assist you with developing and publishing your website. It also provide features such as SMTP, Frontpage Extensions etc. which are required to develop a website.

Regards,

Shane Phillips

That's right. It is not really possible to install Windows Vista on a Dedicated server as Windows Vista is only made for Personal computers. You can consider other versions of Windows operating systems for your Dedicated server. However, you should make sure that you will have to pay charges for Windows operating system license.

I believe you'd need Windows Server 2008 instead, which if I'm not mistaken is the latest version of Windows for server hosting needs.

As for running a basic web server off Vista, that would be possible but I would not recommend it as it probably will not run too smoothly.

Well, Windows Vista is an operating system for clients and not a web server. So it is not really possible to install Windows Vista on a Dedicated server. Windows XP and Windows 98 are also Clients Operating systems and these too cannot be installed on a Dedicated server.
