Default Perl scripts?

I've heard that some larger perl scripts consume a lot of resources and are better suited for dedicated hosting rather than shared/VPS due to this.

How true is this statement? I've stumbled across several interesting perl web scripts but have not bothered with them in the past, in fear that I might have to upgrade to a dedicated server if the site took off with that script due to financial issues.

I tried finding information that says otherwise but all I found were articles stating that perl scripts are resource hogs. Hopefully someone else will say otherwise as perl scripts can be very useful, and some are mainly just cool.

Yeah it's possible that it's true though but I imagine that it also depends on the script itself. However, the ones I've been thinking of using are complex and therefore I'm guessing that they will put some stress on the resources.
