Default DDOS attack?

While I've known about DDoS attacks for a while, since I've been contemplating the idea of a dedicated server lately I'd like to clarify some doubts about it.

In the event that our site is targeted by such an attack, Bodhost will handle it correct? Also, even if Bodhost does handle the situation, what could we do to calm the attack ourselves in the meantime as while I'm sure customer support will handle it, they might not be able to act as soon as the help ticket is sent obviously.

First of all, we will need to examine the type of DDoS attack. Then, we can search for logs to investigate as to if it is specifically happening from a single range of IP addresses or Multiple. For basic, we can null-route the IP address, harden the security on Software as well as hardware firewall. If this doesn't work, then we will prepare for Anti-DDoS Proxy shield which is 100% protection from DDoS attack.

I think DDoS attacks are so lame - I could never understand why someone would do this. Can these types of things be traced back and the perpetrators prosecuted?

Ofcourse, if you are able to find the location of the culprit, you can simply report it to their ISP and they do take immediate action and make sure the abuser is prosecuted.

DDOS = teh suckiest

Back on track now, I really do not think these people care what they are doing when they do it. If you read up tons of people that do this sort of crap (sorry but its true) just want the attention, and many times over they are just running a straight script for it.

I would give better standings to those that do pentesting by hand and not script anyday.

Thanks for the clarification.

Hopefully I won't ever face such an attack but as stated before, there's some individuals out there with nothing better to do and if they ever decide to target my website, I should be ready as having downtime is not fun at all.
