Default Shoutcast radio?

I did a search about this issue and found an old thread which stated something about shoutcast being allowed on a dedicated server.

This interested me as I've been considering the concept of having an online radio station for sometime now but have been putting the concept off due to the price. However this time I might be able to get some people to help me fund it and I have some questions before I decide to spend any money on it.

How hard would it be to set up a shoutcast radio server, and what restrictions does Bodhost have in terms of the content being played?

Shoutcast can easily be hosted on a dedicated server and BODHost doesn't restrict hosting Shoutcast on a dedicated server at any point of time. All you need to do is recognize your requirements and opt for appropriate dedicated server configuration.

Regards,

Shane Phillips

Easy? Sounds good to me, and luckily I recently came across a tutorial talking about this.

Hopefully the people I talked with are still interested so I can make this radio thing happen. It's a shame that certain music won't be able to be played though due to copyright restrictions..

Why the copyright restrictions? Aren't regular offline radio stations allowed to play pretty much whatever music is put out? I don't understand why it wouldn't be the same for an online radio station.

Offline radio's can play copyright content as they have permissions to do it. If you have permissions i.e. License then you can also play copyright content on your server. If you play music for yourself then you won't require license for it but as you will be playing music for many people, you should have permissions or say license for it.

That's true. Shoutcast on a dedicated server should not run any illegal files.

Ok that makes me think of a question then, how do you as a host handle people who want to stream music but its using your resources (your machines) to stream illegal stuff? Is that something stipulated in the TOS?

I would imagine that Bodhost would cover situations like this in their TOS like most reputable hosts would. I'm quite sure your site would get shut down pretty fast if they found out you were doing something illegal.

Correct. BODhost only allows legal content on it's servers. If we notice any illegal content on the server we have provided to you or we receive any abuse complaint, we will suspend your server.
