Thumbs up DNS Clustering through Cpanel

DNS clustering allow you to keep data across multiple servers

Steps to configure DNS cluster through cpanel:-

1)To access the Cluster / Remote Access Menu, click on Cluster / Remote Access, on the main screen of your WebHost Manager interface.

2)Click on Configure Cluster

3)To enable DNS clustering, click the tick box next to Enable DNS Clustering, and then click on Change.

4)Then type the IP address of a server you wish to add to the cluster in the blank field next to Server IP Address:

5)Click on Configure.

6) Repeat steps 4 and 5 as necessary.

Thanks Bod-jack for this steps

DNS Clustering is a technology used on 2 different physical servers for data recovery if one of the physical server fails.Other server takes the responsibility of the another server in case of failure.this DNS clustering provides you 100% uptime.

By using DNS clustering option you can setup two identical machines as a cluster. But you can consider it as a load-balancing too. As a small cost-effective fail-over solution.

If I have several servers running in 2 different datacentres and all using the same domain name for their Nameservers.

For example:-

server1.domain.com
ns1.domain.com
ns2.domain.com

server2.domain.com
ns3.domain.com
ns4.domain.com

etc.

Now the dns entries for all these servers is on server1.domain.com.

The problem is that if server 1 goes down for any amount of time the dns for the rest of the servers goes down with it.

Can we use Cpanel DNS clustering to decrease the rate of redundancy?

You need to setup some secondary dns entries (called SLAVE entries in linux).

You will need install a DNS server on one of your other servers and add a slave entry for your domain. Then list that server as ns2 for the domain.

Another thing you must open a ticket with your hosting provider and get them to also add a slave dns entry.

This will only configure the system to send dns changes to all servers you have added to the cluster and choose to synchronize with. If you wish those servers to send dns changes back to this server, you must repeat this process from each of the servers you want to send changes to this server.
