Sorry bud, I have to disagree with you on that front - The world and his mother are currently web designer - there ain't many jobs about, no matter what your skill.
The way forward, is to make sure your into programming itself - Java, Ruby, ASP, PHP, .Net - and into databases, MySQL, Oracle etc etc.. Be at the front of webdesign in it's dynamic core - not it's interface. That will put you in good standing to get a job in the industry.
