Active Directory is a technology created by Microsoft and it provides many network services, like
# Kerberos-based authentication
# DNS – based naming and other network information
# LDAP-like directory services
Active Directory also allows administrators to deploy software, assign policies, and apply critical updates to an organization, using the same database for use primarily in Windows environments. All the information and settings are stored in a central database. Network varies for Active Directory from small installation with a few computers, users and printers to ten of thousands of users. It also varies for many different domains and large server farms spanning many geographical locations.
