As you are a newbie, you shouldn't need any other applications or components on the server (as per my knowledge ;)). cPanel control panel includes many features which will allow you to manage your server very well.
Also, as you are considering a Linux VPS hosting package, you will have full root SSH access to it and you will be able to install the applications you wish to have. Hence, you can install the applications if you require them later on
