Well, it is definitely possible to make your own Linux Dedicated server at your home and host a website on it. However, you should make sure that this won't be a Reliable solution at all and Most of the people in the Hosting industry do not recommend this. Also, if your website is a Mission Critical i.e. an Important website then you shouldn't even think of hosting it at your Home.
Bandwidth will be required according to the requirements of the website but the connectivity and the Speed of the connection will play an important Role. A DSL or Cable won't be sufficient for a Reliable connection and use of such things should be avoided for hosting a website. It is always better to lease a Dedicated server from a web hosting provider for Reliability, Good Connectivity, better performance etc.
